Search

To carry out a search, type into the search box one of the following:

  • - a full postcode;
  • - a full or partial placename; or
  • - a full or partial road name

The results will appear in a list next to the search box. Click on the appropriate location from the list and the map will zoom to that point.

The Map

Click on the map to select a landscape character area (or if they are active, a townscape character area). Information will appear in a bubble showing the name and the code of the character area, along with a link that will take you a report relating to that character area. Click on the highlighted character area to deselect it.

To zoom in, either use the zoom slider in the top left hand corner of the map, double click on the map or press the "Shift" button on the keyboard, hold down the left mouse button and drag a rectangle on the map using the mouse.

To pan, simply hold down the left mouse button and drag the mouse across the map, or use the pan buttons around the side of the map.

The Townscape Types layer is turned off by default but all the other are switched on. To avoid too much information being displayed when the map is zoomed out, the Townscape Types and Townscape Character Areas layers only become active once the map is zoomed in beyond zoom level 5.

The Townscape Types layer is better viewed with the Townscape Assessment Settlement layer also turned on, as this helps it stand out more against the background mapping.

Print

Click on the "Print" link in the top right hand corner to take you to a specifically designed print page. Click on the browsers "Print" button to send the page to the printer.
